Focused on the supply of products and services for the timber industry, Resinkem has earned its reputation for quality and reliability through the manufacture and marketing of urea formaldehyde resins, scavengers, extenders, formaldehyde solutions and urea.
Resinkem, manufacturers of formaldehyde resins, scavengers. Extenders, formaldehyde solutions and urea, recently embarked on upgrading their Urea Formaldehyde plant due to the obsolete pneumatic control system that was controlling the plant.
CSS was awarded the project and the scope included the design, implementation and commissioning of a state of the art control system to extend the lifespan of the plant by another 13 years. This included a complete upgrade from pneumatic control and instrumentation to a dual redundant intrinsic safe control system.
For the control system was based on two TSX Quantum PLC systems in a Hot-Standby configuration, with redundant Wonderware Archestra Application Servers and InTouch view nodes as the operating Platforms.
The complete project was complete on a hot change over basis as the plant cannot shut down without having to reline a silver catalyst at great expense. Commissioning went smoothly and the operator training that followed ensured remarkable better and more stable control that was thought to be possible for this plant.
"You cannot compare the old system to the new. We now have a handle on the plants vital signs, and the accuracy of the new control system allows us to maximize plant efficiency like never before"
Cyprian Mhkize - Production Manager
"The new control system has given us the facility to recover from abnormal trips & conditions where we could not before and had to replace the catalyst"
Dave Louw - Engineering Manager
