Client : Richards Bay Minerals
Duration : 3 Months
Budget : R255,000

CSS was awarded the task of the software development and commissioning of new regrind screens at the Slag Plant within Richards bay minerals. It included designing a system that will incorporate 6 Siemens 440 Micro master VSD's via a device net network to the existing Modicon Quantum processor on site.
The screens were previously fed from direct on line starters and thus product rates could not be controlled. This frequently resulted in product clogging of the crushers and subsequently caused down time. The new design allowed plant operators to control the product flow effectively and improve production uptime and throughput.
PLC programming was done in Concept in the Modicon Quantum PLC and the SCADA interface was GE Fanuc Simplicity. Communications to the drives was done via a Prosoft Devicenet module designed for use in the Quantum backplane.
