Pietermaritzburg Quarry - Quarry Automation

Client : Holcim Aggregates
Duration : 2 Months
Budget : R260,000

Following the successful automation of their aggregate quarries Holcim have requested CSS to automate the Pietermaritzburg facility, which up to now was a manual operation facility with some hardwired interlocks.

We have as part of a standardization plan used the same control modules for both PLC and SCADA and designed the system such that operator and maintenance personnel could move between sites and be able to run or support these sites without specialized training.

During the same project our engineers incorporated three new Metso crushers into the system to enhance the throughput of the plant. This entailed and closed loop control as well as material balancing so as to optimize crushing and plant efficiencies.

Reporting was completed to allow shirt information and production data to be tracked and improved upon. This was separated by shift, week or month.
