The Ethekwini municipal Asphalt Plant, acknowledged the need to upgrade the complete system with a more reliable and automatic system. Historically the entire plant was run from localized instrumentation control, with no PLC or SCADA.
What was proposed was a simple yet easily adaptable batching system that interfaces with PLC and SCADA. This required the upgrade and new installation of all existing instrumentation on the plant as well as adding load cells for accurate weight measurement.
Allen Bradley PLC 5 PLC's were used with Wonderware InTouch as the Operator interface. All the recipe selection and tables were incorporated in the SCADA.
