Eston Brick and Tile part of the Kaymac Group of companies have entrusted CSS to replace the Kiln control system in their Eston factory. The scope of the project is to replace the existing control system, with a new easily expandable PLC system with central control. This included the design, project management, engineering and commissioning.
Modicon TSX Momentum PLC's were used with a JSENT SCADA system as the supervisory interface.
The kiln pressure and temperature profiling, was done by on/off burner firing using a predefined algorithm. The dryer and damper controls were incorporated by using PID control loops within the PLC thus leaving all external manual controllers obsolete.
The complete commissioning was done during the full production as the kiln could not be turned off. The kiln temperature control was enhanced to such an extent it allowed Eston Brick & Tile to produce products that they could not manufacture consistently before.
